Hi Joe! Nokia devices are a bit too strict with the security as they cause this sort of problems. You should be able to sort this out by following the instructions mentioned here.

Hi Tommi!

I love the mobile trail explorer! It is fantastic.

I discovered it (randomly) from this post on bloged.co.uk - I was searching for content about beer taps!

Anyway - I discovered it there, and found that the writer was using it to track his location, then using another piece of software loading the gps information into EXIF tags on Jpeg files. Brilliant!

It is particularly good for me, because I’m running an (art) project, for which I would really love this ability. It will save me hours of time! About the project, have a look here:

I immediately got a GPS reciever and loaded the software on; and basically everything works “hunky dory” (or fine).

I do have one problem, and that is when trying to export I get this message:

java.lang.Exception: writeToFile: Open Connector: java.lang.SecurityException: Access Denied

I have done a little programming before, but mainly just scripting in VBScript or hacking PHP scripts - so I haven’t jumped into your code. I wouldn’t know how to compile it, or even if it needs compiling!

Do you have any ideas of anything I could do? I tried experimenting with saving to different locations, and different types of paths but with no success.

Any help would be very much appreciated, but even if you can’t spare the time, thank you ever so much for the software. It is truely kind and fantastic!

Thanks! We are just working on the exporting feature and we are also planning on improving the POI functionality. Password protected POI list sounds like an interesting idea. We’ll look into it.

Looking forward on seeing your own J2ME projects once you become acquainted with it. It is a great technology to build on.

Dear Tommi Laukkanen,

The software is great.
I’ve used it today form home to work on Sony-Ericson W810i with HOLUX GPSlim 236 without any problem.
The exported gpx & kml files are visualized with great help of http://www.gpsvisualizer.com .
What I don’t know is how to export a previous trial to memory stick.

May I suggest my wish list:
It would be helpful if you could add Lists of POI (Point Of Interests) to the code which might contain Name, Type of interest, Address, Phone, Lat, Long.
The user should be able to import/export list of POIs (maybe comma delimited).
Then the user can load POIs for a new city when in vacation etc.
Also a hidden password to filter (show or hide) certain type of POIs in a given city? ( I don’t want to announce all of my Interests to everybody who has access to my phone!)

Anyway, the code is very useful at this stage and since I am a newbie to J2ME I will learn a lot from it.
