Mobile Trail Explorer v1.9
I’m proud to announce the release of Mobile Trail Explorer v1.9. Big thanks for all contributors and team members. This version should fix some of the issues with the Sony Ericsson phones and add bunch of great features such as:
- Trail is now projected using the mercator projection
- Both trail and map are now zoomed with same keys (1 and 3)
- File browser for importing trails and selecting export path
- Logger can now write to the filesystem
- Signal strength SNR key to Sky View and updated help screen
- Change screen on space key as well as 0 key
- Export and import waypoints
One of the most wanted feature is the support for the internal GPS devices such as Nokia N95 and E90. This is now implemented in this version and it can be activated from the menu:
Settings > Development Menu > Use JSR179 (if available)
It would be great if N95, E90 and other JSR-179 device owners could test out this feature and report how it is working for them. This is something that will get me buying N95 (or N96) if we get it working correctly.
Go ahead and download the latest binaries from here or download the whole source from here. Don’t forget to send your feedback either to this blog post or to the Google Group of Mobile Trail Explorer.

Is there anything else I’ve to do than going to “Menu => Settings => Use JSR179 (if available)”?
After that, the main screen is still displaying some coordinates and speed which make no sense. Status is “not connected”.
I’m using a TyTN II from HTC which has an internal GPS device, too. But it seems to be that there’s no website or handbook on earth, which can tell me definitively all supported JSRs on this phone.
(Do you know a way to check that?)

Alex: Did you try starting up the recording by selecting Start/Stop recording from the main menu?

No, but now. It’s displaying the same (changing) coordinates and speed as before (without enabled JSR179-support), but it draws its line.
Well, it’s drawing its line while I’m sitting on the couch (at 12km/h). ;-)
When I walk outside, so that it can really connect to the satellites, it’s displaying the same nonsense. And it never draws the way I move.
I don’t understand this behaviour. And well, I can’t really tell what JSRs are supported by the phone (which uses JMM - intent Java MIDlet Manager from Tao Group Limited).

Olof: Current version of the Mobile Trail Explorer doesn’t yet support HGE-100. There has been some discussion about supporting that device and hopefully we will be supporting it in the future releases.
