Mobidentica

Description

Mobidentica is a mobile client for laconi.ca based micro bloggin services like identi.ca. Identi.ca is a microblogging service like Twitter, where users can post short (max 140 character) status updates. Mobidentica is written in Java, so it can be run on phones that support J2ME MIDP 2.0 and CLDC 1.0.

With current version you can update your status and browse your replies, public timeline etc.

You can’t login with OpenID account so you’ll have to use your plain username and password.

Tommy, you’re a genious, thank you, I’m posting this update over my site and the Nokia Blog sometime today.

PS this client seems to run smoother than Twim, I especially like the fact that you can scroll to the different tabs and it won’t ask you to update, I like this a lot, Twim forces you to update when you tab right or left, is Twim getting an update soon as well with this smoother transition. Also my timeline is not being refreshed nor my updates

Will this support other Identi.ca servers, like the TWiT Army?

  • http://www.substanceofcode.com Tommi Laukkanen

@Jorge: Thanks! I’ll release a new version of Twim shortly.

@Ivan K: It doesn’t currently support other Laconi.ca based servers as the API URLs are fixed. I will make it configurable so then it would work with all Laconi.ca services like TWiT Army.

Sweet, email me so I can update the blogosphere

ps – mobidentica is not updating anything but the timeline for me my identica username is jorgeledesma

  • Eetu Huisman

Any chance of making it support multiple sites? I’d like to use it with both identi.ca and miggi.fi.

  • http://www.substanceofcode.com Tommi Laukkanen

@Eetu: Yes, this feature is most likely to be added in the future releases

Can you please provide the source to this under a Free/Open license? I’m eager to take a look, and start working on this! Thanks for the great work

  • http://sdodson.livejournal.com Scott

Do you if it should work on Treo 650? I get the logo screen then nothing else.

  • http://sdodson.livejournal.com Scott

    Nevermind, it works just fine!

@Craig: Source code is now available under the Apache License 2.0. You can find it from GitHub, here.

I confirm that the mobile client works with Treo Palm 755p. A little slow but working very good.My laconica version is 0.7.3. Bravo Tommi !!!

  • http://www.substanceofcode.com Tommi Laukkanen

@Gabriel: Thanks! Can you access main menu with your Treo Palm 755p? Other 755p users are saying that they can’t access main menu in Twim app. Twim has the same kind of menu system as Mobidentica.

Is there a way to be not always asked for the permission to access the net?

  • http://www.substanceofcode.com Tommi Laukkanen

@Tom: It depends on your phone. On Nokia phones you can define default access rights via Application Manager but as Symbian have chosen the “don’t be user friendly” route then you can’t set the internet access to “Always allow” unless the application is signed. Signing cost money and open source projects don’t get that much money from nowhere so usually you just have to live with the popups…

Maybe someday they will think about the user experience more closely and do something about the annoying popups… Or maybe people just buy iPhones…

@Tommi: Actually not.Now I looked at the screens and the only menu I got is the status menu. When I access the aplication the first screen which comes up is the Splash Screen , followed after a lenghty time by the Public Timeline. While in the Timeline screen if I push the center button of the 3ways selector I get to the Status Menu.To exit I have to click the home button which redirects me in the Splash Screen again where I have to select one of the browser options ( open in browser or open link in browser) which redirect me to the blazer browser and there I can select the home button to finaly exit the aplication. While comparing the pics on the link you posted I realized that I cannot access the Main Menu.Other than that I can post to laconica and read all the messages.

@Gabriel: Thanks for the feedback and testing. I just made a small v1.2 release. Now you can activate the main menu also with keys ’0′, space, # or *. I hope that this solves the main menu issue with the Palm devices.

I just changed my password on my identi.ca-account, but i can’t find the user/pass-dialogue anymore.

Also the chooser between miggi.fi and identi.ca is unclear, which one is chosen? (the light grey or the dark grey?) and it does nothing when i select any of them.

Nice app! Works like a charm. Anyway to put a “upate every x minutes” timer in it so it could work in the background. Not sure if its possible to make a note on the main screen to show that a new dent is there on a E71, but that would make it perfect :)

I can’t seem to figure out how to post from my blackberry.

  • macc

Hi, any chance to talk to you in private? I woiuld like to have Mobidentica customized, translated and branded for my laconica server…

  • http://www.substanceofcode.com Tommi Laukkanen

    @macc: I sent you private mail…

Hey Tommi, thanks for creating an Identica app. I have a Blackberry 8820 and I’m having a problem. After I load the app, it prompts me for a connection to identica and then it says it’s pulling my timeline. After it finishes, I get the tab-screen, but there’s no feed. My only option at that point is to hit the option key, which only gives me the “close” option. Any idea what might be wrong? I’ve edited the permissions to “allow” everything for that app. Thanks.

Thanks a lot for this awesome app! It works like a charm on my Treo 650. Finding the JVM (IBM WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environment) was hard, but worth while.

One question … Where can I find the menu items „Settings“ and „People“? My menu just displays „Update status“, „Reload items“, „About“, „Exit“ and „Cancel“.

Just say thanks for the app! Working perfectly on my nokia N70 :)

  • varac

    • Cedesguin

Just uninstall and reinstall without preserving previous settings

Hi, i had to reset my phone and now the app is not working properly… perhaps it’s not loading the conf. Is there a way to modify the stored configuration?

    btw, great app!!
