Description: The Mobile TV Recorder is a system that allows user to record TV broadcast with mobile phone. The actual recording is done in the backend server with help of TV adapter and video recording software.

  1. Java enabled mobile phone
  2. Server with servlet support (Tested with Apache Tomcat)
  3. TV adapter and recording software (Tested with WinTV USB from Hauppauge)

The source code with NetBeans IDE 4.1 project files is available under the LGPL license. You are free to use and distribute this application.

User Guide
How to setup the Mobile TV Recorder?

  1. Download the binary files.
  2. Download and install Apache Tomcat.
  3. If you installed Tomcat as a Windows Service then make sure you allow the service to interact with the desktop (Administration Tools / Services).
  4. Use Tomcat’s admin tools to deploy the WAR file.
  5. Copy start_recording.bat file to some directory that is in your PATH enviroment variable.
  6. Install JAR file to your mobile phone.
  7. Ready. Just use it.

    This is good to see a mobile phone sending request to server for recording a favourite TV program when he was busy with his office work.But there is small issue sir, I could not understand how the server program will work.Please send me a document stating how the server side program should be configured and installed for the perfect running of the application.

    nikhil: I think that this should work with the touchscreen devices as it is using the standard MIDP view components such as lists and forms. I don’t have such a device so I can’t verify this.

    Hello Sir,
    Please advice which WinTV USB from Huappage to buy that works with the program.I searched in Hauppauge site and it returned 102 items.I also want to extend the application to be able to record our local radio stations program.I will share the code if it works.Perhaps your advice will give me a head start.

    @orto: I don’t have the device anymore and I can’t remember the actual model. It should work with any device model as long as the software can be controlled from the command prompt.
