Description: The Torch is an application that renders a blank, white, form on device’s screen so that you can use it as a torch or a flashlight. This requires that your device’s screen has a backlight.

    The torch midlet does not work with my S40 Nokia 6234. The backlight stays on for a few seconds and then goes black. I think that one has to use the DeviceControl::setLight() function on Nokia’s phones. http://java2me.org/NokiaUI/doc/com/nokia/mid/ui/DeviceControl.html#setLights(int,%20int)

    please help, i installed Torch on my device N82 and now screen is black and it has light but i can’t access the mobile at all and i tried to remove the battery but still the same when i switched back on! help me please

    Katia: You are probably out of battery? Torch application is running on Java so it doesn’t really have access to the phone settings. You should try out recharging your phone.

    @cowboy3: It depends on your phone. On most phones you transfer the application file (.jar) to your phone using USB cable or Bluetooth. Most phones automatically install the app from there.

    I like it! I’m thinking this would be very amusing if you could modify it to show a “flame” like that of a Bic Lighter–I read somewhere that people at concerts are now lighting up their cell phones instead of their lighters, and a flickering “flame” to make my V3xx look like a lighter in the dark would be a lot of fun. Don’t forget to make it bright enough!

    @mattis420: Yes, it acts like a flashlight. It can only displays white background which glows quite enough in the dark.

    Hello Tommi,

    I appreciate this small program, but I was really looking for program which can swich on and off torch (flash ligt) on back side of my Nokia 6500 classic. I suppose that I can use shining white screen as torch but real deal would be get into swiching flashlight.

    Please let me know if are you planning to release this program and I am sure other people would love this opportunity to have your program.

    Just got a Samsung Jet – lacks in-built torch of my previous phone.

    I have tried installing Jad + Jar files (after extracting onto computer and transferring via USB.

    However, an error message appears saying filetype is unsupported.

    Is there a way around this?

    Hello Tommi,
    I have a question for you – I’m using the Torch application on my W890i. It works well, but is it normal for the display to dim, and after a while the backlight to go out? I thought at first that when the app is active the display backlight won’t turn off but this isn’t the case.

    hello , i want to write a midlet that when i send a message with the text of ” Silent ” from any number to my phone , the midlet open the message and put my phone in silent mode . but i dont khow enough in j2me .can you help me ???
